Welcome to Sugarloaf

Spacious lots, serene backcountry and a coveted close-to-Key-West address

Sugarloaf Key offers a rare combination of Lower Keys tranquility and convenient proximity to Key West. The area includes Upper and Lower Sugarloaf, with broad natural landscapes, mangrove shorelines, canal communities and homes on larger lots than are typical farther down the island chain. The pace is residential and quiet, yet the dining, culture and nightlife of Key West are an easy drive away. Boaters enjoy immediate access to the backcountry, while cyclists and paddlers are drawn to the island's open scenery and calm waters.

LOCAL DETAIL

The old Sugarloaf Key Bat Tower, built in 1929 as an experimental mosquito-control project, became a local landmark even though its bats reportedly departed almost immediately. The tower was severely damaged by Hurricane Irma, but its story remains part of island lore.

ON THE WATER

Marvin Key is the signature nearby sandbar and backcountry destination, known for clear shallows and a remote feel. Snipes Point and other Lower Keys flats may also be reached by experienced captains depending on departure point and conditions.

WHERE TO EAT

South of the Seven at Sugarloaf for a polished local dinner; dining at Sugarloaf Key Hotel for a convenient island option; and Geiger Key Marina's Smokehouse, a short drive away, for casual waterfront seafood.
